🌕 ♌ ✨ The Full Moon is a time to gather and begin the process of letting go and releasing what doesn’t serve our highest being. It’s time to do our inner work to release toxic thoughts, habits, situations, and people. It’s also customary to give some sort of sacrifice — traditionally this is done to ensure the blessings and abundance in our life keep coming back to us so we can continue harvesting the fruits of our labors from our New Moon intentions. We sacrifice our negative emotions, fears, upsets, disappointments, wrongdoings in order to release the karma that goes along with it.
We set our intentions and goals for the month at the New Moon and work and labor hard to make our goals come true and manifest. At the Full Moon, that’s when energy begins to wind down as the Moon makes her descent into the Dark Moon over the next two weeks. As we follow the Moon’s ebb and flow in our businesses, the last 14 days should have been very busy time for us.
And now, with the Full Moon, it’s time to take stock of where we’re at, of what we’ve accomplished over the last two weeks, and wrap up any major projects we still have lingering or unfinished. At this time we pull our energy inwards to focus on self-work and inner healing.
This Full Moon is particularly special because it is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. During a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth is exactly between the Sun and the Moon, known as an Opposition between the Sun and the Moon. The Sun represents what we give, and the Moon represents what we need. During an Opposition, we may feel like we are being pulled in two different directions between giving and receiving. During a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, we are encouraged to look within and focus on receiving.
The Legend of Leo
We learned in the legend of Cancer that on Hercules’ 2nd labor, Hera sent the giant crab Cancer to help the hydra defeat him. The legend of Leo was the first of Hercules’ 12 labors. The Nemean lion was a ferocious beast with golden fur that acted like a shield, and claws that were sharper than any blade forged by man. The lion captured maidens wandering the woods alone and kept them captive in his cave.
The magical lion had the ability to transform into a beautiful woman, who would lure knights and soldiers to his cave under the pretense of being a damsel in distress, feigning injury and crying out for help like the maidens he had captured. Once the knights and soldiers were inside the cave, the beautiful woman would then transform into the lion beast and tear the men to shreds, offering the bones to Hades, the God of the Underworld.
Hercules, realizing that the lion was impervious to weapons, caught the lion in mid-air and strangled it to death with his bare hands and freed the maidens. He skinned the lion with its own claws and presented the pelt to Eurystheus, the king of Tiryns and Mycenae. Zeus commemorated his 2nd labor by placing the Lion in the sky.
The Zodiac sign Leo is about the creative masks that we wear and the expressive personas we embody to accomplish a goal. In the story, the lion uses the mask or persona of a young maiden to lure soldiers to their deaths. Our masks and personas can be used for good and evil, but are themselves neutral.
I was always a very shy person who never felt seen. It’s taken me 30 years to realize that I can magically create a confident persona through thought-form magick. Everyone has an inner persona just itching to come out and play.
Thought-form magick is the process in which a magickal practitioner focuses on a symbol and imbues that symbol with their own energy to accomplish a goal. For example, if you collect statues or idols, you’re invoking the magic behind what that statue or figure represents. You can also do this mentally — which is the ultimate goal of the Magician — to use pure thought and will to accomplish his or her goals.
For example, placing gargoyles or fu dogs outside the home is a magical symbol of protection. Placing a cross or a pentagram in the home is a symbol of faith.
As Magicians, we can also create symbols to represent abstract ideals. As I said earlier, I was always a very shy person. But in order to do my Great Work, I need to invoke confidence and be comfortable with being seen. As such, I’ve created an energetic thought-form which takes the shape of a Lion — since Leo is all about being in the spotlight, entertaining and playing with others, that I mentally invoke when I need a boost of confidence and want to be seen.
I have also created an energetic thought-form in the shape of a black panther, in which I invoke when I need to cloak myself or when I don’t want to be seen. I’ve imbued that thought-form into the talisman of a panther carved into obsidian, and I carry this with me when I’m out in public and would rather not interact or be social.
For this Full Moon in Leo, I invite you to consider ritualistically creating your own symbol of power that allows you to be seen, and to release any feelings of anxiety about being in the public eye. As business professionals, we must be present in our businesses and that means showing up confidently.
Invoke Your Confident Persona Spell
1. Identify the symbol you wish to use. It can be mental or physical, or both.
2. Under the Full Moon, journal these questions:
- What are your fears surrounding being seen and in the public eye?
- What traits are important for my confident persona to have?
- Who is one person in your field that you admire? What do you like most about them? How can you embody that?
- What does being confident look like? Feel like?
- Write one or more unique qualities that make you special.
3. As you answer these questions, imbue your mental or physical symbol with the qualities you desire to have.
4. Take your symbol in your hands, or close your eyes and visualize that symbol. Now, next to it in your mind’s eye, visualize yourself as you wish to be.
5. What do you need to do in order to become that person?
